17-year-old arrested after reckless driving and accident with stolen car in Orange

ORANGE, CT (WFSB) – A 17-year-old from New Haven was arrested Monday morning after being involved in a serious crash on Route 34 in Orange.

According to police, they received multiple reports of multiple vehicles driving recklessly on Route 34 coming out of Derby.

The incident resulted in a crash near the intersection of Mapledale Road, where a gray Kia Sportage collided with two other vehicles before crashing into a tree.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the driver of the Kia fleeing on foot into the nearby woods after the crash. Authorities have launched a search for the suspect.

It was later revealed that both the Kia Sportage and an Audi – also involved in the initial reckless driving complaints – had been stolen from Waterbury the previous night.

After making a U-turn on Route 34, the Audi was seen heading back towards Derby.

The suspect, who was seen from the crash site, was located and arrested.

The juvenile was later identified as a 17-year-old juvenile from New Haven.

After the accident, the teen was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Police have not released any further details about the charges the minor faces.
