Harris, Trump supporters hold final highlights ahead of Election Day

Harris, Trump supporters hold final highlights ahead of Election Day

(WGGB/WSHM) – Monday marked the eve of the 2024 election and there were highlights in support of several presidential candidates.

“You don’t want to say the day after the election, ‘Why didn’t I do more?’” said Saul Finestone of Longmeadow.

On Monday, community members in Longmeadow stood out and showed their support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

“She has a positive message. She’s not trying to divide us, she believes in something,” said Kenneth Klopfer of Longmeadow.

“She has a great track record. She was a great prosecutor, attorney general, United States senator and vice president,” said event organizer Candy Glazer.

In Westfield, people showed their support for the Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump.

“We cannot even afford daily life at the moment. Gasoline, food, everything is so expensive and when he was in power everything was more affordable,” said event organizer Katrina Ripka.

“The four years he was in, things were really good. I was actually able to survive. Right now I can almost live on the streets,” said John Lacus of Holyoke.

Lacus explained the message he wanted people to take away from Monday’s highlight in Westfield. “We want our country to be better, that’s all we want. We want to get along with everyone. We want this country to be united, not divided, and that is all we have seen in the last four years,” he added.

It was a similar message echoed by those who rallied behind Vice President Harris.

“I think there’s so much at stake in terms of saving our democracy and really taking care of all the people in our nation, not just a select few, and not dividing our nation,” said Kenneth Klopfer of Longmeadow.

“I think it’s time not to go back. Turn the page and return to an era of decency in this country,” Glazer explains.

For Trump supporters, they believe it would be even more indecent if another Democratic candidate were elected.

‘We need someone who knows what’s going on, who knows what to do. The economy was good, no wars, everyone got paid and everyone had money in their pockets. He has closed the border. He did not allow what this government did. If anything, they unraveled it and caused a disaster for everyone,” said Miguel Gomez of Westfield.

For Gomez, the answer to the question of who to vote for is simple. “The biggest question I have for everyone is: Were you better when Trump was in office, or are you better now? That’s a big one for me because we did a good job with him and now everything is completely backwards,” he noted.

Regardless of the outcome of the election, voters told Western Mass News they will continue to strive for unity.

‘We’re still neighbors. I don’t think the other side believes we’re still neighbors no matter how we vote, and that’s scary,” Klopfer said.
