Road project: we will compensate the affected residents – assures Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has promised compensation to affected residents in the ongoing construction of the N5 arterial road, from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III.

Wike gave the assurance after inspecting some projects in Life Camp, Katampe and the International Conference Center in Abuja on Monday.

The minister had on October 25, ordered the construction of the four-kilometre, six-lane four-lane road from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, somewhere in Ido-Gwari.

The former governor of Rivers State, after inspecting the ongoing project, noted that some cash crops and some houses along the road corridor would be affected.

Wike, however, assured that within two days, the communities of those who own certain crops and those who would lose their houses or part of their buildings would be compensated.

“What we were going to do in Life Camp is mainly related to some crops and a small number of houses for which we have to pay compensation, but if there is a need to move them, we will do so; if only compensation is needed, we will do so, depending on what is feasible.

“What is important for us is that we work together with the different communities to solve the problem,” he said.
