Springs Preserve announces upcoming November and December events in Las Vegas

There are only two months left in 2024 and the Springs Preserve invites guests to end the year with them.

The venue will host several family-friendly events throughout November and December, as well as some recurring events.

Events include:

Butterfly habitat

  • Until November 25: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m
  • Free for members or included with general admission
  • Wander through this unique butterfly habitat and witness the fascinating dance between free-flying butterflies, the plants that sustain them, and their important role as pollinators in the ecosystem. The dates for this seasonal attraction may vary depending on the weather.

DRI Science in the Springs – The Story of Nevada

  • Thursday, November 7: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Admission: $10, reservations required
  • This lecture from the Desert Research Institute (DRI) provides a detailed overview of Nevada’s archaeological heritage. Delve into Nevada history through the lens of archaeology. Discover the meaning of Basque bower signs, explore discoveries from the DRI luminescence laboratory, and learn about ancient petroglyphs using 360-degree media.

Fall Garden Series – Getting your garden ready for winter

  • Saturday, November 9: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
  • $10 for members and $15 for non-members, reservations required
  • Learn more about desert gardening from the Springs Preserve experts.

Greetings to Veterans Free Access Day

  • Monday, November 11: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • The Springs Preserve is offering free general admission to retired and active duty military personnel with valid ID on Monday, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day. Regular admission applies to accompanying guests.

Free admission for children with paid general admission for adults

  • December 1, 2024 – January 31, 2025
  • Need a break during the holidays? Receive one free child admission for every paid adult general admission in December and January.

Fall Garden Series – Native Plants

  • Sunday, December 8: 9 a.m. and 1 p.m
  • €10 for members and €15 for non-members
  • Discover how to landscaping with plants native to the beautiful Mojave Desert. Springs Preserve’s horticultural experts share their knowledge about the plants and how they adapt to our hot, dry climate.

Springs Safari: Birds

  • Saturday and Sunday in November: 11am
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • Discover the wonderful world of birds and their incredible beaks. Learn about species native to Southern Nevada and discover how different beak shapes help birds find food, build nests and thrive in their habitat. Then delve into the wonders of birds by going on a birdwatching trip.

Conservation for kids: rainbows

  • Saturday and Sunday in November: 1 p.m
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • Discover the science behind this beautiful phenomenon with hands-on, creative activities that help you learn more about light and the color spectrum.

Nature Exchange Badge Class: Biology

  • Saturday and Sunday in November: 2 p.m
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • Dive into the microscopic world where every creature tells a story. Discover the building blocks of life cells.

Springs Safari: adaptations to plants and animals

  • Saturday and Sunday in December: 11am
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • During the safari, guests look for plants and animals that use special tricks to survive the cold. Prepare for fun activities and a hands-on look at the incredible ways life thrives in the desert, even in the coolest season.

Conservation for children: snow

  • Saturday and Sunday in December: 1 p.m
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • Dive into how snowflakes form, the science behind snowstorms, discover how snow plays an important role in replenishing our water supply and supporting wildlife habitat, and discuss ways to protect the environment and keep winters beautiful.

Nature Exchange Badge Class: Chemistry

  • Saturday and Sunday in December: 2 p.m
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • Get ready to marvel at the wonders of molecules as you earn your Chemistry Badge.

Toddler time Kids activity

  • Monday, Thursday and Friday: 11am-12pm
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • Bring your little ones to Springs Preserve for kid-friendly fun with a new theme every week! Recommended for children 5 years and younger.

Waterworks Museum

  • Thursday-Monday: 9am – 4pm
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • WaterWorks Museum is an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of water treatment and delivery in Southern Nevada. Learn about the challenges and triumphs of the water’s journey.

Boomtown 1905

  • Thursday-Monday: 9am – 4pm
  • Free for members or included with general admission.
  • Step back in time at Boomtown 1905, a recreated early Las Vegas street scene. Explore historic reconstructions of the original train depot, the Arizona Club, the Majestic Theater, the First State Bank, the Lincoln Hotel, and the Las Vegas Mercantile. Encounter interpretive, interactive exhibits and historic furnishings to learn about early 20th century Las Vegas.

General admission for Nevada residents with ID costs $9.95 for adults

  • The Nevada State Museum is open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m
  • Springs Café is open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m
  • Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Hours vary for classes and special events
