HYDERABAD: A woman from Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, who went to Bahrain to work as a housemaid, has alleged that she is being physically tortured.
The woman, identified as Paka Sirisha shared several videos with her sister, Majji Devi, detailing her harrowing situation.
On November 3, Majji Devi wrote a letter to the Indian embassy in Bahrain requesting help for her sister. She also contacted the Pravasi Legal Cell, Bahrain chapter, seeking their help in rescuing Sirisha.
Majji Devi stated that Sirisha went to Bahrain on March 5, 2024. “She is being tortured at her workplace,” she said, pleading for Sirisha to be saved.
In the videos sent to her sister, Sirisha claimed she was starving, sleep deprived and overloaded with work. She described cases of physical abuse and indicated that the situation had become unbearable.
With tears in her eyes, Sirisha described the torture she faced and how she was threatened with dire consequences if she complained about her situation.
TR Sriniwas, a BJP leader from Telangana, heard about the case and approached the authorities for help. He informed the Embassy of India in Bahrain about Sirisha’s dire distress and urged them to intervene and provide assistance.
