Liverpool star Salah said he wanted to ’cause a commotion’ with a cryptic message as Slot responds

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah ‘wanted to cause a stir’ this weekend with his cryptic message, according to beIN Sports presenter Richard Keys.

The Egypt international has again been in good form this season, with Salah scoring nine goals and seven assists in 15 games in all competitions.

Salah, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, are out of contract at the end of the current season, with no concrete signs he will stay or leave.

Liverpool are reluctant to offer long-term deals to players in their 30s, but the 32-year-old will feel he deserves a lucrative contract for his continued brilliant form in a Reds shirt.

After scoring the winning goal as Liverpool came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1Salah hinted his future at Anfield remains uncertain in a cryptic post on social media.

Salah wrote: “The top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win games, but in the end there is only 1 champion. That’s what we want.

“Thank you for your support last night. Whatever happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”

And Keys believes Salah knew what he was doing by sending that message, but the former Sky Sports presenter insists he heard the Liverpool striker wanted to stay at Anfield.

Keys wrote in his blog: “As Arsenal appear to be walking in the mud, Liverpool are increasingly impressive. Brighton were brilliant for most of the afternoon and might have left Anfield with a win if only there had been two minutes and two seconds of madness.

“It took Liverpool that long to overturn Brighton’s lead and after that they never really got into trouble again.

“I keep saying that there will be tougher tests for Liverpool, and they keep harping on that and brushing aside every challenge they have faced.

“Mo Salah’s latest cryptic tweet has caused a bit of a stir, which is of course exactly what he wanted.

“Two seasons ago he left the club permanently – that was until Liverpool had a dramatic spirit – sold Mane and decided to make Salah the club’s highest-paid player.

“The article in Saturday’s Mail, based on Simon Hughes’ new book Chasing Salah, must have been interesting reading for some. It confirmed what I had already said during the time they played together. Remember? Liverpool fans used to hit me for it. They didn’t love each other.

“My information now is that Salah wants to stay, but a three-year contract will be needed to settle him down.”

Responding to Salah’s post, Slot said at a press conference: “You interpret in a way that other people might not. I don’t look at the players’ Instagram posts, I just talk to them, which is not possible! So that’s the advantage I have.

“Mo is in a really good place at the moment, as long as he has been at Liverpool he has been in a good place, but again this season. I hope he can post another one after tomorrow and Saturday and some what he says is not important to me.

“(What’s important to me) is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations and that’s what matters, not how you interpret any of his messages.

“If it was (a reference to his future), then I should have talked about it,” he said. We only talked about Leverkusen because that team deserves all our attention because of the quality they have.

“His contract expires at the end of the season and Virgil has said something in the past and now that he has a position that you interpret in a certain way, it will probably remain that way as long as their future is not clear.

“But in the meantime, let’s hope they put in the performances that Mo and Virgil had this weekend.”
