The city of Wausau is ready to welcome voters for the general election on Tuesday

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – General Election Day is finally here and many of you will be heading to the polls around our viewing area to make your voices heard in several races, and that includes the city of Wausau.

The city of Wausau has six polling places. There are only about 21,000 people registered to vote in Wausau. They’ve already seen 40% of people vote absentee. The City Clerk and her staff have been preparing for this day since the fall of 2023, preparing all polling places and ensuring that all necessary supplies are available at your location, and that even includes preparing and prepping polling places for ensure they are trained.

“We have regular training before every election to remind poll workers of those processes, those rules, as we try to adjust things and continually improve the process for both our poll workers and the voters to ensure that the election runs smoothly,” said Kaitlyn Bernarde, city clerk for the city of Wausau.

Election Day requires teamwork from all city clerks, municipalities and poll workers. This way they are able to successfully organize fair and free elections. In the city of Wausau, the Department of Public Works helps set up and take down polling places. There are about 175 poll workers scheduled for the Wausau election.

“We trust them to do their training, show up and, you know, follow the rules as well. So it takes all those people working together to make voting possible,” said Bernarde.

If you forgot to register, don’t worry, you can still go to the polls on Tuesday. You just need to show proof of residency. A document that links you to your address. Common acceptable documents include a Wisconsin driver’s license, voter ID, utility bill, bank or credit card statement and more.

All polling places in the state of Wisconsin open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and close at 8 p.m.
