Daily digs: Fort Wayne FC’s new stadium, Bay FC Target Treasure Island for training facility and more!

Mark Music, majority owner of Fort Wayne FC, announced Monday that he is building a soccer-specific stadium that will open in 2026. The stadium, which will have a 9,280-game capacity, will be located on the south side of Bass Road, adjacent to I-69.

It is the latest step for Fort Wayne FC in its quest to advance to the professional ranks in 2026.

“While this will be an incredible stadium for football fans and event attendees, we want to look beyond the field and see its potential to contribute to the growth of the sport in Northeast Indiana and beyond,” said Music, the president and CEO of Ruoff Mortgage. in press release. Just over a month after the announcement, the new Bay Area women’s soccer team, Bay FC, has filed permits for its new permanent training facility at 449 Avenue H on the Treasure Island, San Francisco. The application will create a two-story facility and three football fields. The Treasure Island Development Authority is listed as the owner of the property.

Construction will provide a 25,000-square-foot athletic facility one to two stories high, in addition to three full-size soccer fields. Of the three football fields, two will be equipped with natural grass and one with artificial grass. An above-ground parking lot for 100 cars will be included. The indoor facility includes a weight room, medical and wellness center, kitchen and dining room, laundry facility, locker rooms, lounges, meeting rooms, event space and offices for athletics staff. Bellevue Independent Schools board members approved an $8.4 million project to upgrade Leo Gilligan Field and Ben Flora Gymnasium during their monthly meeting Wednesday evening.

The school district will seek bonds to finance the project. Artificial grass will be installed on the lawn by Motz Group of Ohio. The remainder of the work on the two facilities will be done by Ohio-based Perkins Carmack Construction.

Plans for the 88-year-old stadium include installing a rubber track, upgrading the tennis courts and building a new concession stand with restrooms.

The 52-year-old gym’s locker rooms, lobby and public restrooms will be renovated. (Northern Kentucky Tribune)
