Nokia has revealed it is investigating a possible security breach involving a third-party vendor after a notorious hacker claimed to have stolen the company’s source code.

“Nokia is aware of reports that an unauthorized actor may have accessed certain third-party contractor data and possibly Nokia data,” the company said in a statement.

However, the ongoing investigation has not yet revealed any evidence that Nokia’s systems or data have been compromised.

Nokia break-in?

The hacker, known as IntelBroker, said on an online forum: “Today I am selling a large collection of Nokia source code, which we obtained from an external contractor who worked directly with Nokia to support their development of some internal tools.”

While no evidence has been found to support IntelBroker’s claims, Nokia insists it is taking the allegation seriously and continues to monitor the situation closely.

The hacker claims to have obtained proprietary Nokia software, SSH keys, RSA keys, BitBucket logins, SMTP accounts, webhooks, and hardcoded credentials.

IntelBroker is reportedly a Serbian hacker who has been active since October 2022 and has a history of high-profile attacks. To date, more than 80 separate leaks have been posted to online forums by IntelBroker, with targets including companies and organizations such as AMD, AppleEuropol and HPE.

Emerging research also shows that many companies, from small and medium-sized businesses to multinationals, are failing to comply with these rules basic principles of cybersecurity.

Furthermore, workers are increasingly frustrated by a lack of appropriate tools and policies, forcing them to turn to the public AI tools that pose a risk to the safety of the company.

TechRadar Pro asked Nokia for more details, but the company did not immediately respond.
