The Kremlin criticizes Moldova’s elections as undemocratic and unfair

Moscow, November 5 (dpa/GNA) – The Kremlin has criticized the presidential elections in Moldova, located between Ukraine and EU country Romania, as unfair and undemocratic.

“They were full of electoral manipulations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

He complained that hundreds of thousands of Moldovans living in Russia were denied the opportunity to vote. In contrast, he claimed that the Moldovan diaspora in the West could vote, which influenced the outcome.

In the presidential elections in the country, which is torn between the West and Russia, the pro-Western incumbent Maia Sandu won.

Sandu received just over 55% of the votes cast. Her challenger, Alexandr Stoianoglo, received almost 45%, but led in votes cast in the country itself.

The Republic of Moldova, which is also an EU candidate country, has accused Russia of massive election interference and spoke of organized voter transports, especially in the Moldovan breakaway region of Transnistria.

Peskov rejected these accusations. He stated that there is no evidence to support these allegations.
