Father of baby killed by mother’s partner, jailed for brutal street abuse

The father of a baby who was the victim of a high-profile murder has been convicted for his role in a brutal street attack on a man.

Kevin Flood was jailed for four years and two months when he appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 33-year-old teamed up with Scott Dolan, 35, to attack Guy Weston in the Hilltown area of Dundee on January 5, 2023.

Flood – who had a number of previous convictions – was the father of five-month-old Hayley Davidson, who was shaken to death in Buckhaven, Fife, in 2016 by her mother’s then partner, Gordon McKay.

McKay was ultimately sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the girl’s manslaughter.

Flood’s lawyer, Andrew Crosbie, called the death a “tragic event” that was widely reported at the time and “clearly affected him deeply.”

But, he added, Flood accepted he would receive another prison sentence for this latest crime.

The barrister said: “The intention (upon his release) is to move from the Dundee area to rural Fife.”

Lady Ross also ordered that Flood be supervised for a further three years after his release.

She accepted that he had “experienced personal challenges” in his life.

But the judge added that he was a “persistent offender” who had spent almost half his life in custody.

She told both Flood and Dolan: “You attacked (the victim) in a brutal attack on a Dundee street, in full view of the public.

“This was not an accident. You sought him out because of a previous complaint.

“You both armed yourselves with large knives. He was beaten and beaten with the knives.

“He has been left with permanent scars. Fortunately, his injuries were not worse.

“You are both equally responsible and both were determined to cause harm.”

Dolan – who was said to have a “terrible” criminal record – was sentenced to five years and three months. When released, he will be on supervised release for four years.

The prison sentence will commence at the end of the current sentence he is serving.

The pair had previously pleaded guilty at a hearing in Edinburgh to assaulting Mr Weston causing serious injuries, permanent disfigurement and endangering his life.
