Jason Kelce apologizes for the incident involving a fan who insulted his brother

Jason Kelce has apologized for an incident that occurred prior to the Ohio State-Penn State game last weekend.

A viral video on social media showed the former Eagles center grabbing an unruly fan’s phone and sticking it in the ground.

Kelce, who retired after last seasondiscussed the incident during ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” pregame show.

“I think everyone on social media saw what happened this week,” Kelce said. “Listen, I’m not happy with what happened. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing, really. I don’t think this will lead to any discussion and that it is the right way to go about things. At that point I dropped to a level I shouldn’t have.

“The bottom line is that I try to live my life by the golden rule. That’s what I was always taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I will continue to do so in the future.”

The elder Kelce was at Beaver Stadium to watch the Big Ten showdown. The viral video showed a number of fans asking for photos, fist bumps and high fives.

But when someone started harassing him and shouting an anti-gay slur at his brother Travis about his relationship with Taylor Swift, Kelce took action.

In addition to destroying the phone, Kelce appeared to use the same anti-gay slurs before another fan separated the two before the confrontation escalated.

Kelce is in his first season as an NFL analyst for ESPN.
