TMPD to suspend traffic officer caught soliciting bribes

The officer was filmed on Nelson Mandela Road near Fountains Valley in Groenkloof on Saturday.

Saturday’s incident has since gone viral on social media.

TMPD spokesman Isaac Mahamba said the officer had been served with a notice of intent to suspend.

“TMPD notes with great concern the video circulating on social media platforms. Following the alleged bribery, the TMPD initiated an internal investigation.

“The member will be given notice of his intention to suspend, and he must provide the department with reasons why he should not be suspended within 48 hours.

“A statement from the complainant and the member is required as part of the investigation process.

“These allegations of corruption are inconsistent with the department’s beliefs and principles and will be dealt with decisively,” he added.
