The city of Cary, North Carolina calls itself “Carey” in celebration of its annual Mariah Carey celebration

Mariah Carey may not be able to legally claim to be the only “Queen of Christmas,” but she can say she (kind of) has a town named after her.

Cary is a populous city in North Carolina with a history long before the R&B star’s founding in 1750. The city’s name is pronounced the same way as Carey, so Mayor Harold Weinbrecht decided to look into it and honor the singer’s legacy.

Weinbrecht took to the airwaves on local station Mix 101.5 to announce that the town will be renamed “Carey” on November 1 for “One Sweet Day,” a play on Carey’s hit song. After all, the city only needs one extra letter. In an Instagram videoa woman is seen adding a lit “E” in the city’s name. In other photos in the collection, the proud mayor poses with the official proclamation.

“This is amazing!!! I’m so honored!!” Carey, 55, replied in the city’s Instagram comments. “I can’t wait to be in North Carolina next month!! ”

The temporary annual change is said to be a tribute to “the holiday magic she brings every year,” and it’s a role Carey takes very seriously.

On November 1, the same day Cary announced the name change, and the day after Halloween, the “Emotions” singer dropped a Addams Family inspired video to announce that the holiday season has begun. The countdown in the video turns the dark and somber set into a Christmas wonderland, and Carey is, of course, dressed in the fur-lined red dress similar to hers. Merry christmas album cover.

And the superstar went one step further to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her best-selling Christmas album by launching an Amazon store. On November 4, two days before she embarks Christmas time tourCarey released a collection of Christmas decorations, gift ideas and merchandise.

There is even one huge inflatable lawn while Carey himself navigates reindeer on a sleigh.

If you don’t have a lawn, you can also enjoy Carey’s holiday spirit by visiting her newly unveiled wax figure at Madame Tussauds in New York. On November 3, the singer visited the figure and was surprised by the resemblance. The museum opted to forego her classic fur-lined dress in favor of a sparkling red dress with a plunging neckline, similar to the look she wears in her clothes. 2020 Apple TV+ Holiday Special, Magical Christmas by Mariah Carey.

According to one press release from the museum, Carey loved the exhibit and said, “Oh my god, it’s surreal. Very good!”
