Court documents say Orenday was found with a gun in his front pocket and told officers he was acting in self-defense.

The motel’s surveillance footage confirmed details of a woman who told investigators that Orenday had stayed with her the previous night and refused to leave without money for a ride home.

When Coronado and Burdick arrived to help the woman, tensions escalated into the deadly shooting.

Orenday is in the Harris County Jail on a $500,000 bond. His next court appearance is on December 12.
