Elderly Chillicothe man seriously injured in morning crash

JACKSON, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Jackson Post responded to a two-vehicle injury accident early Tuesday morning at the intersection of US 35 and Savageville School Road in Jackson County. According to officials, the incident occurred around 7:55 a.m. on Nov. 5, 2024.

The crash involved a red 1995 Mack hauler driven by Keith Manning, 40, of Wellston, Ohio, and a red 2006 Honda Accord driven by Joseph Tanner, 82, of Chillicothe, Ohio. Manning was driving west on US 35 when Tanner, who was driving east, attempted to turn left onto Savageville School Road. Tanner reportedly did not yield and was struck by Manning’s vehicle. After the collision, Tanner’s vehicle slid off the left side of the road and came to rest in the median, while Manning’s truck came to rest on the right shoulder of westbound US 35.

Tanner suffered serious injuries in the crash and was initially transported to Holzer Hospital in Jackson by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services. He was later taken to Grant Hospital in Columbus for further treatment. Manning was unharmed.

The crash caused the closure of the westbound left lane of US 35 for about an hour while authorities conducted their investigation. The roadway has now been reopened.
