TJ Edwards reveals Bears had another team meeting after Week 9 loss

Another loss and another tumultuous week for the Chicago Bears who have now lost twice in a row, after winning three in a row. With many questions surrounding this team and calls for the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus from fans and media alike, players have decided to take matters into their own hands as they look to turn the season around.

On Tuesday, Bears linebacker TJ Edwards, a veteran and captain of the team, appeared on the “Bernstein & Harris Show” on 670 The Score in Chicago, and revealed that there was a team meeting where many players made their voices heard.

“It was real,” Edwards said. ‘Everyone understood that what we are doing now is not good enough. It is not our standard. … I think we needed that a little bit.”

Edwards didn’t go into details about what was discussed during the meeting, but it sounds like it was a fair meeting.

“We haven’t covered anything up,” he said. “I’ll keep the things that were said inside. But I think it was just very sincere and real. There’s a realization that we all, from coaches to players, have to be better. … In this league, the really good teams take responsibility. Not just players, but coaches too. And I think we have a team that does that. But again, it’s one thing to say how good we can be and all that stuff, but it’s something different thing to do. it’s Sunday.”

As Edwards said, the meeting was to discuss the recent losses and how the team feels they are not playing up to their standards. It’s another team meeting week where players and presumably coaches try to come together to fix this season’s mistakes. After a disastrous end to the Commanders game in Week 8, with Tyrique Stevenson taking all the criticism for his mental error at the end, this week’s meeting feels a little more worrying.

The Bears had all the motivation needed to come back strong against the Cardinals last week, but ultimately fell flat on their faces. Over the past two weeks, a lot has been said and a lot of action taken by the experienced leadership of this team, but not so much by the coaching staff. Team meetings can only go so far, and with the New England Patriots heading to Soldier Field for this Week 10 matchup, the Bears can’t afford another embarrassing display.
