Woman wants to break off engagement because fiancée did not vote in American elections: ‘I’m terrified’ | Popular

America is eagerly waiting to see who the next US president, the Democratic presidential candidate, will be Kamala Harris or Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The voting to elect America’s 47th president ended on November 5 and everyone is waiting for the results. Expectedly, social media is full of posts about the event, and one of them has taken people by surprise. In a post on Reddit, a 26-year-old woman claimed she wanted to break off her engagement to her fiancé because he skipped voting.

What did the woman say?

“My (26f) fiancée (26m) does not plan to vote in the US presidential election. I have a moral crisis. Is ending our engagement so dramatic?’ she asked on Reddit. In the next few lines she explained the situation.

She explained that they live in Florida, and her future husband refused to vote because he didn’t like any of the candidates. “And our political views are quite similar. So I don’t understand why he is so nonchalant about skipping this vote,” she added.

How did social media react?

The post left Reddit divided. While some supported the woman’s decision, others said voting is a personal choice and should not affect their relationship.

“You have no control over his actions, behavior or choices, only yours. If it’s that important to you to be with someone who votes and he doesn’t want to vote, then you should break up with him. (If he voted, and voted in the opposite direction as you, would that be okay, since at least he voted?) You’re allowed to end a relationship for any reason,” one Reddit user posted.

“For me it would be a deal breaker,” said another. A third asked: “But if he votes and doesn’t vote for your preferred candidate, would you be just as angry and not marry him anyway?”

A fourth wrote: “This is a terrible idea. If you don’t share the core values, break up. You can explain why it’s important to you, but you can’t change him.

In this presidential race, Kamala Harris advocated unity and hope, adding that the country will have a “fresh start” under her leadership. Donald Trump, on the other hand, promised economic recovery and warned of a Democratic-led future.
