Suspect identified in officer-involved shooting

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. – Further information has been released about an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday.

On November 4, around 1:20 p.m., the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department received a shooting call from Highway 18 in Hardeman, near the Madison County line. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the incident began as a domestic situation in which two women were shot at the original location.

One woman was taken to Regional One Hospital in Memphis, while the other was transported to a hospital in Jackson for treatment.

After the shooting, the deceased suspect, identified as Bryson Kirk, fled the scene with an infant in the vehicle, leading to a chase and an exchange of gunfire with a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper.

The investigation, which is still active and ongoing, will determine whether Kirk died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or was struck by gunfire from the troopers.

The TBI does not identify which officers are involved in these types of incidents, but refers questions of that nature to the appropriate department to be answered at its discretion.
