ELECTION RESULTS: Ross County – Scioto Valley Guardian

ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — There were a few contested races throughout Ross County, but none that were expected to be a bombshell. Republicans were expected to wipe the slate clean. Two closely watched races included county recorder, where Kathy Dunn, a Democrat, had held the position for decades and was challenged by a Republican.

Another race didn’t cause much concern in the county until recently, when it made an impression last month: That race for the county commission was between Republican James “Oody” Lowe and Democrat Welcome Stoekin. Lowe, the sitting president, faced controversy last month when he approved a controversial piece of legislation that would impose zoning restrictions on those living outside city limits. Scores of county residents stood up and voiced their concerns, with thousands signing an online petition and hundreds showing up for a commission meeting. The measure was eventually withdrawn by the committee and Lowe pushed back, blaming the news media. He later sent a letter apologizing to the people.
