Five young brothers seriously injured in storage room explosion, investigators say

BAGLEY, Minn. (KVLY/Gray News) – Five young boys are in critical condition after being injured in an explosion at their Minnesota home.

The Bagley community comes together to support the five brothers, who range in age from 6 to 14.

A GoFundMe founded to help pay for their medical expenses, was set up and raised nearly $34,000 on Tuesday.

A family member who started the fundraiser said the boys were in critical condition and were airlifted to a Hennepin County burn unit.

She said the boys are stable. However, the burns range from 5% to 55% of their body. A surgeon told the family that all boys will need surgery at some point in their recovery.

The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of the explosion and fire at a storage unit north of Bagley around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Investigators determined that a propane tank was leaking into the metal storage unit and that the explosion occurred after a man lit a cigarette.

First responders said the man was also injured but provided no further information on his condition.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to investigate.
