Bill O’Reilly calls out Fox News for cliché about election coverage

Bill O’Reilly called his former network, Fox News, Tuesday night while doing election coverage on NewsNation.

During a conversation with the host Chris CuomoO’Reilly was about to make a point about the Fox News contributor Karl Rove when he decided to make a detour about a cliché he heard on the network.

“Karl Rove on Fox News – and by the way – this is a message to Fox News,” O’Reilly said. “Please stop telling your commentators and presenters the words ‘canary in a coal mine’. There are no canaries on the ballot. You are not allowed to vote in a coal mine. I don’t know why they say that over and over again, but they’re on Fox News. Please stop.”

A search of a TV transcript database shows three mentions of “canary” or “canaries” on Fox News on Tuesday. The cliché isn’t unique to Fox, however, as the phrase has been said several times on both CNN and MSNBC in recent days. A NewsNation host even said “canary in the coal mine” less than 30 minutes before O’Reilly complained about the statement on Fox News.

O’Reilly ended his point above Rove’s analysis of New Hampshire, at which point Cuomo defended Fox News.

“But listen, you know what they’re doing,” Cuomo said. “You can argue about their style, but this race is close and people are looking for indications of the outcome, and they look at New Hampshire as some kind of laboratory that if Trump can get it close there, who knows where else it could be . is close?”
