Man dead after officer-involved shooting near 7th St and Indian School Rd

PHOENIX – Police officers were involved in a shooting in downtown Phoenix late Tuesday morning.

The incident happened near 3rd Street and Clarendon Avenue, near the main cross streets of 7th Street and Indian School Road.

Officials say a woman called police after a man tried to climb over the fence of her yard just before 11 a.m.

Police found a 29-year-old man in an alley near Claredon Avenue.

Police say the man did not comply with police commands and reached into his waistband where he “pulled out a gun.” That’s when the police-involved shooting began.

The man, who has not been identified, received aid and was later pronounced dead by the Phoenix Fire Department.

Police say the “weapon used by the suspect was located at his feet and was later determined to be a replica firearm.”

This is the second shooting involving Phoenix police officers in the last 12 hours. Late Monday evening, officers were involved a shooting near 19th and Southern Avenue.
