Canadian police horses help corner stolen ram car during chaotic chase in Toronto

Police have to approach their work in different ways every day and think on their feet. That’s exactly what authorities in Toronto… Canada did after spotting a suspected stolen truck. Not only did they surround the Ram pickup, but they did so with the help of mounted police. Now two suspects are in jail facing a number of charges.

The first clue in the case came from an automatic license plate reader, which… Ram as a stolen vehicle. Mounted officers were the first to attempt to intercept, but the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Johnathan Desrosiers, reportedly escalated the encounter by ramming one of the police horses and then crashing into two police vehicles before attempting a hasty escape to feed.

When he attempted to leave the area by other means, more officers showed up and he drove the truck into a local business. Authorities chased one suspect on the road and arrested a second suspect in the Ram itself. Both the horse and the officer struck by the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Video shows the hectic situation as the driver tries to find a way out. Ultimately, they fail to control the RAM, as it crashes into a company called Little Burgundy.

Desrosiers is now against costs included “Injuring certain animals, driving a vehicle dangerously, general nuisance/endangering the lives or safety of the public, two counts of mischief/damage to property exceeding $5,000, and four counts of assault on a peace officer with a weapon,” police said. The passenger in the vehicle, a woman named Cedar Nicholas, faces two charges, including theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. They were all out on bail when the incident occurred. Toronto police hope anyone with video evidence of the crime will come forward to assist in the investigation.
