Club Brugge vs Aston Villa predictions

Aston Villa fans couldn’t have asked for a better start to the club’s first Champions League campaign since 1982/83.

Thanks to victories over Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna, Villa is at the top of the league after three rounds. Liverpool are the only other team to have the maximum number of points to their name so far.

There is now a genuine belief at Villa Park that Unai Emery’s men can qualify directly for the round of 16 by finishing in the top eight of the table.

There are still a number of tough games ahead for Villa, not least a home game against Juventus later this month. But Emery’s side are ahead of schedule and no one will enjoy facing them in the future.

However, Villa hasn’t had much to cheer about in the Premier League lately. A 4–1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was only their second of the season, but Emery’s players have won just one of their last five top-flight matches and now sit sixth in the standings.

As many predicted, there are some signs that Villa are struggling to balance domestic and continental commitments.

It is not necessarily a matter of physical fatigue. It could indeed be more of a mental problem. After such highlights as the 1-0 win over Bayern Munich, it is difficult to be ready for an everyday Premier League match a few days later. Villa played out an uneventful goalless draw against Manchester United after that famous win against the German giants.

No Villa fanbase would be disappointed if Emery ultimately opted to focus most of his attention on Europe. There’s no point in putting so much effort into qualifying for the Champions League if you’re not going to try to do well when you get there.

The concern for Villa is that it’s difficult to turn your form on and off like a tick, so their recent disappointing Premier League displays could have a knock-on effect in Europe. Emery and his players will show against Club Brugge on Wednesday that this is not the case.

Betting tips for Club Brugge vs Aston Villa

Can Aston Villa record four out of four wins against Club Brugge in the Champions League?

Aston Villa wins

Club Brugge will not come close to a place in the top eight of the Champions League, but will hope to participate in the knockout phase of the play-offs (which requires a finish between ninth and 24th) .

Bruges was defeated 3-0 by Borussia Dortmund on the first match day, after which it defeated Sturm Graz 1-0. In their last European appearance they lost 3-1 to AC Milan.

Now that Juventus and Manchester City will provide the opposition on matchdays seven and eight, Bruges could sooner or later get some more points on the board.

In our estimation, they are unlikely to win anything against Aston Villa in one of Wednesday’s early kick-offs.

Emery’s side can maintain their 100 percent record in the Champions League by coming out on top at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Aston Villa clean sheet

Although it is one of the strongest teams in Belgium, Club Brugge is not the team that scores the most freely.

Despite being second in the standings at the time of writing, they are the lowest scoring players in the top four of the Belgian Pro League.

In the Champions League, only six teams scored fewer times than Brugge, which has two goals to its name.

After conceding four goals against Tottenham this weekend, Emery is keen to return to the starting line-up against Bruges.

Expect a measured, defensively strong performance from Aston Villa in this one.

Tip Aston Villa to keep a clean sheet at 9/4 with bet365

Morgan Rogers can score at any time

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for Aston Villa against Tottenham. He has now scored in his last three away games in the Premier League, which bodes well for this trip to Belgium.

Rogers has emerged as a key player for Villa this season. He was to some extent last season, but the former Middlesbrough man has already made more starts in the 2024/25 season than he did in the 2023/24 season, when he moved to Villa in January.

The attacking midfielder gets into good scoring positions, while he is a cool finisher in front of goal.

Last week it was reported that Rogers is in talks with the club over a contract extension, which will be music to the ears of Villa supporters.

Don’t be surprised if Rogers gets his name on the scoresheet again on Wednesday.

Make sure Morgan Rogers scores anytime on 13/5 with bet365
