Lebanon on Wednesday officially filed a complaint with the United Nations over Israel’s deadly attack that killed several Hezbollah members when their pagers detonated in September.

Lebanese Labor Minister Mustafa Bayram filed a complaint with the UN International Labor Organization, claiming the attack was a “blatant war against humanity, against technology and against labor.”

“It is a very dangerous precedent,” he told journalists in the Swiss city at an event organized by the UN correspondents association ACANU.

The September device attack

The device attacks catalyzed the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has turned deadly as the country launched attacks in several parts of Lebanon to destroy Hezbollah operatives. The attacks followed the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, along with other top leaders of the terrorist group.

While Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack, Lebanon says it is “widely accepted internationally… that Israel was behind this heinous act.”

“Within a few minutes, more than 4,000 civilians fell, among martyrs, wounded and maimed,” Bayram said.

“We are in a situation where ordinary objects, objects you use in everyday life, become dangerous and deadly. If left unchecked, this crime could become normalized,” he said, adding that the filing of the complaint is “to prevent such crimes from happening in the future,” he added.

Trump wins elections

Meanwhile, Donald Trump won the US presidential election, making a historic comeback to the White House. In his victory speech, the Republican leader addressed the war and said he would “end all wars” in the coming years when he takes office for a second time.

Hamas has said it expects Trump will not repeat Biden’s mistakes and will not “blindly support” Israel in its war efforts. Hezbollah, meanwhile, has said a ceasefire deal with Israel would not depend on the election results.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, on the other hand, congratulated Trump. He said: “We are confident that the United States, under your leadership, will support the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.”
