First warning Wednesday and Thursday for rain, sometimes heavy

First warning Wednesday and Thursday for rain, sometimes heavy

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A rain system will move in on Wednesday afternoon with rain overnight and more fog on Thursday morning

  • First warning Wednesday if rain moves in
  • First warning on Thursday for messy morning traffic
  • Watch out for a potentially gloomy day on Sunday

Wednesday remains a First Alert Weather Day as rain is expected in the afternoon. After 2 p.m. the showers will start pouring in from the south. Rain will spread northward during evening traffic and become widespread in areas south of I-85. The rain will continue overnight with a few showers trying to reach north of I-85, but for the most part the mountains will remain on the drier side.

Precipitation numbers have dropped, but most of the Upstate could still see a half to an inch of rain, which could lead to puddles on the roads during Thursday morning’s drive. However, large-scale flooding is not expected to be a major problem. The mountains receive much less rainfall, with most areas receiving about four inches of rain.

On top of the wet roads, fog may form again during Thursday morning. That is why it is a First Alert Weather Day. Plan for extra time when you head out the door in the morning.

Scattered showers are possible on Thursday, but most of what remains is expected to remain light. It will be mostly cloudy all day, but we will still manage to reach highs in the low to mid 70s.

Friday and Saturday look mostly dry and warm with highs in the low to mid 70s. However, on Sunday we look for a possible wedge formation over Western Carolina. This would lead to a gloomy day with cloudy skies, areas of fog and patchy drizzle and even light rain. Additionally, it will be much cooler with highs in the low to mid 60s. Wedges are difficult to predict, but right now the signals are there. We’ll let you know if that changes as the weekend approaches.
