Watch: Telford’s Labor MP Shaun Davies calls for ‘foreign criminals’ to be deported rather than jailed

Labor MP for Telford Shaun Davies asked this Minister of Justice Shabana Mahmood on whether she would consider the move in Parliament on Tuesday.

The MP said: “I have asked the Justice Secretary to consider a stand-alone deportation order for foreign criminals as an alternative to locking them up at taxpayers’ expense.”

Ms Mahmood, who is also the Labor MP for Birmingham Ladywood, told Mr Davies: “I personally believe that deportation for someone who has been convicted and will ultimately be imprisoned in our country is as good a punishment as serving a imprisonment. time in this country.”

She added that the government was looking at options, including raising the issue of early removal from Britain.

Mr Davies said after the debate: “It is great to see the Secretary of State showing support for a measure that would ensure our justice system delivers value for public money.”
