Latest US elections: Trump storms to US election victory – Harris will call him and deliver concession speech | American news

Extraordinary elections are defined by a storyline we’ve heard many times before

Donald Trump’s road to victory, as predicted, passed through Pennsylvania.

It was his victory here that was the turning point.

So what did the crucial swing state bring about for him and what does it tell us about his stunning win across the country?

We have heard so much that this election was unprecedented and set a new trend.

In the end, it may have come down to something more familiar, a storyline we’ve all heard before.

In two weeks we crisscrossed Pennsylvania, talking to voters and gauging their mood.

It is the suburbs of the big cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, that will have been most crucial.

And in those suburbs we heard the same message again.

The deciding factor

Life was simply too expensive under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and voters wanted change. It was the economy that motivated them most.

One of the Democrats’ biggest mistakes, it may turn out, was their belief that they could somehow fool the electorate and present a sitting vice president as a candidate for change.

The voters we spoke to simply didn’t believe it.

And for too many people, Kamala Harris just wasn’t likable enough. Many told us they would vote for her, but only because she wasn’t Trump.

When it came to Trump, voters were able to see past his many shortcomings because they liked his policies and record.

In the end, for many, it seemed to come down to a simple equation.

Were their four years under Biden as easy and affordable as under Trump? And the answer was an emphatic ‘no’.

Rose-colored glasses, Trumpnesia and wishful thinking may all have played a role, but if the economy was improving, they said they just didn’t feel it.

Democrat’s own goals

There will be many more reasons for Trump’s victory, some of which will be provided by Democrats themselves.

They seemed out of touch, their candidate distant and entitled, some said.

The showbiz supporting acts of multi-millionaires they brought in probably only made that worse.

Chaos abroad, wars abroad, immigration and the border were also issues at hand, but the cost of living was the theme that emerged above all.

There is a lot of talk about this election being unlike any other. It was extraordinary in many ways.

But at the end of the day, we’ve heard the storyline so many times.

Americans felt worse off than four years ago. It was the economy again, stupid.

The voters wanted change and they think they voted for it.
