FIRST WARNING | Chris Bailey has a pretty active lineup

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Showers and storms are rumbling across parts of Kentucky today as a cold front moves in from the west. This will slow and some showers and storms will continue through Thursday, with a larger system expected over the weekend.

This is all part of the active setup I’ve been talking about for a while. Today’s showers and storms will bring very heavy rainfall and could be quite strong in parts of central and western Kentucky early this morning.

Much drier weather will be seen further east and southeast, with only some scattered late day conditions.

As mentioned, the front is sticking around and that will ensure that a few more waves of showers and storms can hit parts of the state tonight and Thursday. There will still be periods of heavy rain.

Hurricane Rafael is poised to hit western Cuba later today as it heads northwest and into the Gulf of Mexico.

With slower movement in the Gulf, the system coming in from the Plains probably won’t pick this thing up as it moves through here. This system will bring showers and storms across the region later Saturday through Sunday, while another system will follow suit a few days later.
