Truck driver dies after being hit by an auger conveyor belt

RHODES, Mich (WNEM) – A 65-year-old truck driver was killed Nov. 1 while picking up a load of soybeans, according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA).

According to MIOSHA’s preliminary investigation, a farm – located in Rhodes – stored soybeans in two storage bins mounted on a trailer attached to a truck. MIOSHA said while the empty bins were being moved back, the trailer or grain bin hit the auger conveyor, which then fell over and pinned the victim to the ground.

The death is believed to be covered by the MIOSH Act.

An official MIOSHA investigation has yet to be completed.

This is the 28th Michigan worker death reported to MIOSHA in 2024.
