Jasper man sentenced to 21 years for meth trafficking

JASPER, Texas (KTRE) – A Jasper man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations, according to U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs.

Larry Buckley, 44, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, as well as being a felon in possession of a handgun. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison on November 6 by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

According to information presented in court, a joint investigation between federal, state and local law enforcement began in October 2022, identifying Buckley as a source of supply for a drug trafficking organization that distributed large quantities of meth in the Jasper and Lufkin areas. as the Sabine Parish, Louisiana area.

During the investigation, it was found that Buckley supplied numerous people with large quantities of meth. Law enforcement officers could purchase meth and guns directly from Buckley. Buckley has previously been convicted of several crimes, including engaging in organized criminal activity, manufacturing delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and burglary of a habitation. As a convicted felon, Buckley is prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition.

The case was investigated by the FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Texas Department of Public Safety; and the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
