Farm murders | Zachariah Olivier applies for bail alone

MANKWENG – There is now a temporary disagreement in the pig farm murder case.

Defendant 1, Zachariah Olivier, will continue his search for bail later this month.

His two co-defendants, Rudolph de Wet and William Musoro, have chosen not to apply for bail and will spend Christmas behind bars.

The three suspects made a brief appearance in the Mankweng District Court where they are charged with murder over the deaths of Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu.

There has been another postponement in the case against the men accused of the murder of Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu. With that postponement comes the temporary split of the case into two separate hearing dates.

Olivier’s bail application will have to be made without the statement he made to police upon his arrest.

Earlier this week, the High Court in Polokwane upheld a decision not to grant Olivier access to that document.

His lawyers had argued that the statement was made without a legal representative present.

Even as postponements pile up, support for the families of the deceased has not waned.

Although frustrated, supporters believe justice will be served for the three men accused of killing Makgatho and Ndlovu and feeding their remains to pigs.

Olivier’s formal bail application will be heard at the Polokwane Regional Court on November 22.
