Bill Burr teases who killed Jeffrey Epstein in ‘SNL’ promo

Bill Burr will take on a post-election episode of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, with a promo released Wednesday for his appearance to hype it up — and tease the answer to the real cause of death of financier and convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, who famously committed suicide in prison and sparked conspiracy theories about whether something more nefarious was behind his death.

The playful promo opens with the stand-up comic making coffee backstage at “SNL” when young cast member Marcello Hernández approaches him. As they start talking about Tuesday’s election, the clearly pre-recorded promo glosses over any details that might reveal the movie wasn’t filmed after the election by covering those parts of the conversation with loud background noise, starting with someone talking turn on a blender.

Hernández expresses disbelief over who won the election, with Burr adding that he thought “never in a million years”… and then the sound of a vacuum cleaner. We hear his election reflections end with: “and it was late too!”

Burr noted that he happened to be in a steam room with Trump ally and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, describing him as quite hairy, before adding: “He told me who actually killed Epstein.”

Of course, we don’t get to hear the supposed answer while someone is drilling in the background, but we do get Hernández’s shocked reaction as he tells Burr, “That’s crazy!” I didn’t even think he was a suspect, wow.”

The bit is one that was used to great effect by “The Simpsons” at the time, when Homer and others wanted to discuss the Super Bowl winner in a post-game episode and used it to cover their mouths with their drinks when they say the name of the team being discussed.

In yet another coincidence, Hernández says he happens to have a cousin who works at the Pentagon, who told him… something unintelligible thanks to the sound of a leaf blower, which for some reason blows leaves around the studio.

Burr replies, “That was my guess!” That’s what I said!” Hernández compliments how sharp Burr was for thinking that, before Burr adds, “Between you and me, I’m panicking a little bit — you know, there’s a lot of pressure this week. Do you party at all?”

He makes the comment while scratching his nose, which seems like it could indicate he’s making a reference to cocaine (I’m writing this as a full square, I’m basing this on what I saw on television). Hernández replies, “I got you. Actually, I have one tons of like (sound of ‘SNL’ saxophonist coming in as he plays), and I also have a full bag (more saxophone noodles). I also have six small capsules of (sax).”

Burr adds, “I’ll do that to take the edge off.” Hernández asks another question that he finally gets an answer to: who did Burr vote for? But this time there is no sound to cover it up: “I voted for everyone. Yes, fill them in, democracy.’ Hernández responds that he took the same absurd approach to democracy and also invalidated his vote.

“Whatever happens, I’m right!” Burr says, and Hernández adds, you can’t blame them for what happens after the election. Burr further notes, “It wasn’t us, we’re on the sidelines.”

In a final revelation, Burr continues: “There’s a group of people putting a bee in my hood. It’s those damn (leaf blowers).” Burr then walks out and talks to Hernández as his name and that of musical guest Mk.gee are shown on the screen.
