A suspect is dead and a police officer injured after a shooting in Jackson County Wednesday.

At 7 p.m., the Michigan State Police First District posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the incident occurred during a vehicle pursuit and that one officer was injured but is expected to recover.

“At some point during the incident, an exchange of fire occurred between police and the suspect. The suspect has died. One police officer is injured but will survive,” the account said.

Video shared on social media courtesy of a viewer who did not wish to be identified shows the suspect’s dark-colored SUV/minivan racing down a street, pursued by multiple police cars with flashing lights and sirens.

About 20 shots are heard.

Detectives from the Lansing-based MSP Special Investigation Section will conduct an investigation.

“This is a new investigation and additional information will follow as it becomes available,” the district said.
