Remains of an airman killed in a crash return to Oak Harbor

WASHINGTON – The remains of Lt. Serena Wileman, one of two pilots killed in October’s EA-18G Growler crash near Mount Rainier, arrived in Oak Harbor Monday evening, according to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.

Hundreds of community members from Oak Harbor and surrounding areas gathered to pay tribute to Wileman and Lt. Commander Lyndsay Evans, the other airman killed in the crash.

Evans’ remains are expected to return to Anacortes later this week, with her arrival to be private at the request of her family.

The families of both fallen soldiers expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from local and surrounding communities in recent weeks.
