HGTV’s Jasmine Roth shares update on premature baby after tumultuous birth

HGTV star Jasmine Roth has given fans an update following the dramatic premature birth of her second child, Darla, who was born a month prematurely and weighed 2.4kg.

Take to her Instagram the past week has been the Staff! I destroyed my house And Hidden potential star introduced her followers to baby Darla, who was born prematurely on September 7. Roth mentioned it earlier People The birth was a “terrifying” experience as she and her husband, Brett, were out for dinner when her contractions started, then stuck in traffic on the way to the hospital.

Now the family is home and things are starting to get back on track. In an Oct. 28 post, Roth shared a series of photos of the newborn, along with her other daughter, Hazel, and her husband.

“Maternity Leave: Part 1,” Roth wrote. “We brought Darla home from the hospital after 15 days. Yes! Hazel stayed with her grandmother and her uncle and visited us every day, but it was still very difficult to be away.”

“And when I said we were going ‘home,’ we were actually going to an Airbnb because our house in Utah wasn’t finished yet and with Darla coming a month early, we wouldn’t have had a chance to move. Don’t complain though! Home is where your people are,” she continued.

Roth went on to say that Hazel “is the best big sister” and that “Darla loves her attention.” She also gave a health update, explaining why Darla had a feeding tube.

“If you’re anything like me, this was new territory as I’ve never had a premature baby before. It is actually a tube that goes through her nose all the way to her stomach,” she says. “Milk (see photo 13 for the source!) goes through the tube straight into her stomach. Because Darla was born so small, it took her some time to grow strong enough to eat a whole meal.’

She continued: “The hospital staff have trained us and each feeding lasts about 45 minutes by the time she eats from a bottle/nurse, and then we slowly tube feed her. It’s a slow and time-consuming process…good thing she’s cute!”

Roth later shared a video on October 31 of Darla having her feeding tube removed. In the caption she wrote about her experiences with a premature birth.

“This may sound strange, but it took me a few days in the hospital to realize I had a ‘preemie’ baby,” she said. “I obviously knew that Darla was born a month early and that she was in the ICN (low level NICU), but it actually took a while for it to sink in. It’s wild, but as a mother you see perfection and notice the tubes, sensors and equipment. It hadn’t actually occurred to me that she was a ‘preemie’, and when I realized it, I remember a feeling of dread washing over me.”

She added, “The day she took her tube out may not seem like a big deal, and apologies for the rather crude video, but as a mother of a preemie (a title I now wear with pride) this was day everything. Tears of joy, lots of smiles and gratitude for all the doctors and nurses who have taken such good care of our little girl so far. THANK YOU! Now the focus is on growing and nourishing her (without a tube) and we are so excited.”

In another post, Roth shared photos of extended family visiting baby Darla, writing, “I don’t always post photos of extended family, but these days are special and I want to remember them.”

She also shared photos from a family photo shoot in the forest. “Was it ambitious to take a three-week-old baby into the woods for photos? Certainly! But was it also really nice to have an excuse to shower and put on ‘real’ clothes? Yes and yes,” she joked in the caption.
