Atlantic Beach council members vote to fire city manager and attorney

ATLANTIC BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Following the abrupt cancellation of the Atlantic Beach City Council meeting, council members voted to make major staff changes.

The meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. was canceled and the media was notified an hour and a half before the meeting.

Atlantic Beach Councilman John David confirmed that although the meeting was canceled, City Manager Orton Bellamy and attorney Dwayne Green “were relieved of their duties for cause.”

David confirmed the decision had been voted on, but would not confirm who was involved. It is unclear when the decision will come into effect.

The agenda for Wednesday’s meeting included Councilmember Carla Taylor’s welcome and other staff matters related to the mayor pro tem and the Planning and Elections Commission.
