Bruins in the hunt for the final 9-5A-DI playoff spot

The task for the West Brook Bruins in Week 11 is simple: win or go home.

“It’s the playoffs a week early for us,” West Brook head football coach Chuck Langston said. “For us, the play-offs are a week early. We have to win the game. We have to be great.”

It’s a tight race for the final playoff spot in District 9-5A-DI, with West Brook getting a shot for the first time in four years.

“Just working on the field: blood, sweat, tears, to get to this point,” sophomore quarterback Tam Anderson said.

The Bruins are 2-3 in the district and a win over Barbers Hill would give the Bruins the head-to-head tiebreaker.

“It’s going to be a huge challenge for us, but I think our guys are ready for it,” Langston said. “We will have to perform and play very well for four quarters.”

Barbers Hill is a team that likes to run the ball and push the pace. That’s why the West Brook Bruins are focusing on speed in this match so they can see the results on the scoreboard and see their dreams come true. – the ones they have been working for since November last year.

“I’m like a 99, he’s like an 87 speed, and he’s like an 82,” senior linebacker Jarvis Bassett said. “Me and my young people are going to take care of business there.”

These veteran linebackers plan to protect a young and hungry quarterback who is ready to take the lead.

“I put my trust in these guys every day I come here, and I just hope they put that trust in me,” Anderson said. “When they get down and I try to build them back up, they just listen.”

Five schools remain eligible, only four tickets for the postseason, all next Friday night.

“We’re going to the playoffs,” Bassett and some other linebackers said. “We said it here first.”

Kickoff in Mt. Belvieu is scheduled for 7 p.m
