Salem woman charged with arson | News, sports, jobs

LISBON – A Salem woman accused of starting a fire that posed a risk of harm to two firefighters and several residents of a Salem apartment complex has been charged with two counts of arson.

Alicia Craig, 33, East State Street, was served a secret indictment Tuesday by the Columbiana County Grand Jury on the two first-degree felony charges for the May 2, 2024, fire.

According to a previous story about the fire at the East Sixth Street building, all residents were able to get out without injury when alerted by smoke detectors and were out of the building before Salem Fire Department arrived.

One firefighter suffered minor burns after his turnout jacket began to smolder, forcing him to jump from the building to extinguish the fire. Another firefighter injured his knee during the overhaul process after the fire was extinguished. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Salem Police both investigated the fire.
