A reported wildfire in Cambria County turned into a death investigation after a burned body was found after the flames were extinguished.

According to Cambria County District Attorney Gregory Neugebauer, the body was found around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday along Route 56, Haws Pike. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees was called to the scene when the body was found near the Cambria-Westmoreland County border.

At a news conference, Neugebauer said the death was suspicious and ruled a homicide. The cause of death has not been determined.

Neugebauer said county officials are working to identify the victim and asked anyone missing a family member or friend to call West Hills police. The victim is described as a white male in his late 40s or early 50s.

The death appears to be a targeted incident and there is no danger to the general public, Neugebauer said.
