Deputy-involved shooting in Elmore County

ELMORE COUNTY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – An independent investigation is underway by the Idaho State Police (ISP) into a shooting of an Elmore County Sheriff’s Office deputy following a car crash on Interstate 84.

On the afternoon of November 5, a vehicle on eastbound I84 crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed near milepost 87. The 36-year-old male driver from Idaho got into an altercation as the deputy attempted to arrest him. As the situation intensified, the deputy discharged his firearm several times, injuring the driver.

The driver received emergency medical care, was airlifted to a local hospital and remains in critical condition but is expected to survive.
