Protesters gather against Trump in San Jose

Protesters inside San Jose gathered tonight against newly elected President Donald Trump. The coalition also says it opposes anti-immigration policies and continued support for Palestinians.

About three dozen people gathered at the corner of Story and King Roads in San Jose a day after the presidential election. The coalition of action groups says it does not support the newly elected president Donald Trumpthey will also continue to hold the current government responsible.

“We as an organization believe the Biden administration has just closed the border, restricted asylum seekers, and also amplified Trump’s racist rhetoric by not countering it,” said Uriel Magdalano of the Silicon Valley Immigration Committee.

As protesters gathered, this man also stood on the same corner praying and urging others to pray for Trump and the country. Still, members of San Jose Against War, the Freedom Road Socialist Organization and other groups say they want to stay focused on the issues many people face.

‘Trump will have his own Project 2025. He will do his utmost to implement those policies that will affect labor rights, women’s rights, transgender rights, immigrant rights, etc.,” said Philip Nguyen of San Jose Against War.

Protesters also say they support the Palestinian cause and after a brief rally marched to the nearby Mexican Heritage Plaza.

“Regardless of who won, whatever policies are being pursued in Palestine and Israel, we are ready to highlight that. We knew there would be a lot of momentum today, so we wanted to stand up for the people,” he said. Nguyen.

The coalition told me they were planning this protest regardless of who won the presidential election, and that they will continue to fight for the rights they say are in danger.
