October is warmer, drier and quieter than average on the Isle of Man

Forecasters said October nights were “mild, without air frost” and an average minimum temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius, but the coolest night fell to 3.9 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall during that period was about 23% below average, and wind speed during the month was 12.6 knots, almost one knot below the long-term average.

While Storm Ashley had caused gales and coastal problems on October 20, there were only five days in total where high winds were recorded, which is the third-lowest total on record for the month, forecasters said.

Total hours of sunshine were 116 during the period, which was 10 higher than the 30-year average, with the sunniest day falling on October 10, giving way to “clear skies, perfect for a good view of the Aurora Borealis”. they added.
