Jacksonville police are investigating the possible overdose of a high school student

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Police in an Eastern Carolina city are investigating after a high school student was treated for a possible overdose.

Jacksonville police say a school resource officer at Northwoods Park Middle School responded today to a student showing signs of a drug overdose.

According to police, paramedics responded and the student was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital, where another student from the same school was treated for similar symptoms.

Police say they seized a “vape” cartridge that both students are suspected of using.

Police say these vapors are sold in tobacconists and convenience stores and may contain high concentrations of THC or other dangerous substances, which they say have led to overdoses in the past.

“The packaging and flavors of vapes are often designed to target youth,” police said. “We encourage parents to talk to their children about the dangers of vaping and to report locations where illegal THC products are being sold.”

The Jacksonville Police Department is asking anyone with information that may be helpful in this ongoing investigation to call them at (910) 938-6408 or Crime Stoppers at (910) 938-6521.
