Woman jumps to her death from the 19th floor of View Park Towers

A 45-year-old woman died after jumping from the nineteenth floor of the View Park Towers in Nairobi.

Police said they are investigating a suicide in Wednesday night’s tragedy.

Detectives said Charity Muthoni Mutoi visited the building on Wednesday evening, November 6, and had tea with a friend before apologizing.

According to police, she later climbed to the 19th floor, where she jumped off to her death.

Security guards who arrived on the scene discovered that she had left her shoes, jacket and cell phone on the nineteenth floor before jumping off.

The motive has yet to be determined.

She landed on top of a tent placed on the ground floor of the building and succumbed to the injuries. It was established that the deceased had visited her male friend who has a printing shop on the ground floor.

They were having tea together, but she apologized and within a short time the friend received a message from her that she had decided to commit suicide.

The motive was not disclosed.

The body was seriously injured and burst into pieces after landing on the Uhuru Park side.

It was taken to the city morgue pending the autopsy.

In Bungoma County, a grade five student of Bulondo Primary School was found dead after suspected suicide.

He had hanged himself with a shoelace in his parents’ house.

No suicide note was recovered and the body was transferred to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary for safekeeping pending autopsy.

The number of suicides is increasing due to efforts to tackle this trend.

Police say the trend is worrying and increasing with up to two cases being reported daily.

The World Health Organization says such cases are attributed to unemployment, death, academic failure or pressure, legal problems and financial problems.

Other reasons include bullying, previous suicide attempts, a history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance abuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

Kenya is slowly introducing measures to tackle the threat.
