CSRA counties affected by Helene can receive SNAP assistance

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Agencies have announced counties eligible for assistance through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for those affected by Helene.

People in Georgia affected by Helene can apply for a one-time benefit to help purchase food through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Georgia Department of Human Services announced.

The next phase in Georgia runs from Thursday, November 7 through November 14 (excluding November 10 and 11) for the following counties: Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Warren and Washington.

The final phase runs from Monday, November 18 through November 23 for Emanuel County.

In support of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. As of November 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved the following counties for DSNAP as a result of Hurricane Helene: Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York.

DSNAP will be implemented in two phases. Residents are only eligible for pre-registration and telephone interviews during the assigned period.

Phase one includes the following counties: Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Hampton, Laurens, McCormick, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York.

From Monday, November 11, residents of those provinces can register in advance DSNAP online.

Those who pre-register will be given instructions on how to complete their eligibility interview over the phone and if approved, the applicant will receive their EBT card in the mail.

Applicants are encouraged to provide as much information as possible on the online pre-registration form. Failure to provide your hometown, date of birth, current contact information, and a photo of your South Carolina driver’s license/ID card may result in you having to wait to apply in person when the on-site DSNAP event is scheduled in your county.
