Kothagudem: The management of SCCL is embroiled in a dispute over the recovery of trade union subscriptions on behalf of the recognized trade union, AITUC, from its employees.

Several unions claimed that Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) The management illegally recovered the subscription amount from the employees on behalf of All India Trade Union Congress’ (AITUC) coal mines union – Singareni Collieries Workers’ Union of CPI. It may be noted that it is a practice within the SCCL that the management recovers the monthly dues from the recognized union from the employee’s salary, with due consent of the employee, and transfers the same to the concerned union.

Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) affiliated to Singareni Collieries Employees Union Secretary Manda Narasimha Rao said that the Singareni management recovered Rs.500 each in October under the temple committee code without the consent of the employees. It is not right for the company to recover the recognized union subscription from the wages of employees under the temple commission code without their consent. The company should have recovered the subscription under the 1875 trade union code, but not under the temple committee code, he said. Speaking to Telangana today, Narasimha Rao said that many AITUC affiliated employees have protested at SCCL mines against recovery of subscriptions from their pay slips without their consent.

He stated that it is not a good practice to carry out clawbacks without verifying the consent and declaration of clawback of employees of the concerned union and that the management of the company should bear full responsibility for the same. It is the responsibility of the Singareni management to ensure that industrial relations issues do not arise in such matters. The management must fully vet all those who have not agreed to chargeback and refund the full amount to them immediately, he demanded. The Congress-affiliated Singareni Coal Mines Labor Union (INTUC), the representative union of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), has also submitted similar proposals. objections to reimbursement of the subscription.

Kothagudem union vice-president Md. Razak, said it is improper for the company to reclaim the subscription under the Temple Commission Code and it is not appropriate to reclaim unilaterally without checking the authorization statement. The AITUC leadership has confused the workers in this issue, he alleged.
