Domestic violence incident leads to officer-involved shooting

Two people are injured following an officer-involved shooting that stemmed from a domestic violence incident in South Omaha.

Although police are investigating the incident, they believe the woman may have been held in a closet against her will.

Officers responded to a domestic violence call on Wednesday around 5:30 p.m South 43rd and Frances Street.

When they arrived, police said they heard gunfire and a woman screaming from a closet. OPD officers “immediately opened the closet door” and two of them fired, a report said.

The woman was removed from the closet and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The man is in hospital with very critical injuries.

New details Thursday about the shooting of an Omaha HS special education teacher

We expect new details on Thursday about the shooting of a special education teacher in Omaha at her home in Sarpy County.

Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. to release what the investigation has found so far.

Rebecca Geiger was reportedly shot dead by her husband Rory on October 28 in what started as a domestic violence incident.

“There was gunfire initiated by a person from inside the house – from the glass window. One of our officers returned fire,” Davis said in an update.

Life-saving measures were performed on Rory, but he was also pronounced dead.

Mrs. Geiger had just started her tenth year at Westside High School.

Vargas and Bacon race still not called

The winner of the tight race between Rep. Don Bacon and State Senator Tony Vargas for the 2nd Congressional District seat has yet to be officially announced.

Yet Bacon does claimed victory as final voter counts are pending.

In their latest updateAP has Bacon with 51.4% and Vargas with 48.6%.

Vargas led the totals slightly into the final hours of election night, but Wednesday morning’s totals pointed to shipments Bacon back to Washington.

The rematch between the two candidates plays out in a manner reminiscent of the same race two years ago.

What’s next for medical marijuana in Nebraska

Both medical marijuana measures in Nebraska have done so adopted after Tuesday’s vote – but the issue has not yet been fully decided.

More than 70% of Nebraskans voted to legalize medical marijuana. However, Judge Susan Strong is expected to decide the verdict validity of petition signatures this month.

“For every 10 Nebraskans who voted, seven said yes, and it didn’t matter whether those votes came from rural or urban areas. Eastern Nebraska, Western Nebraska, city, country – all staunchly in support of the initiative,” said reporter Brian Mastre.

A decision must be made before results are certified on December 2. If there are even 3,500 signatures determined to be infectedTuesday’s results may be declared invalid.

Biden will deliver remarks Thursday following Trump’s victory

Donald Trump has won back the presidency.

In his first appearance since Trump’s victory, President Biden will do just that to comment on Thursday morning at approximately 10am CT.

AP reports that with Trump’s return, he will want a completely new government in addition to Biden’s.

“The president-elect now has 75 days transition period to build out his team before Inauguration Day arrives on January 20,” says AP.

Republicans who want to win the House

Republicans do gained control of the US Senate, it was announced on Wednesday.

AP reports that control of the US House of Representatives is disappearing to and fro between a Republican or Democratic majority.

“A few individual seats, or even a single one, will do that determine the outcome. The final figures will take some time, so the decision will probably be postponed until next week – or after that,” reports AP.
