2026 Kia EV2 spied for the first time

2026 Kia EV2 spied for the first time

Kia is testing prototypes for an electric crossover that is even smaller the EV3 subcompact May unveiled.

The newcomer, also a subcompact, will probably be called the EV2. And judging by its size and angular shape, it just might happen replacing Kia’s Soul EV at some point.

The EV2 is expected to go on sale in 2026, but given its small size, it probably won’t make it to the US. In other markets it will compete with a new range of small electric crossovers, such as the Renault 4 E-TechFiat Grande Panda, and Mini Aceman.

The EV2 should run on the same cheaper version of Hyundai Motor Group’s flexible E-GMP platform found in the EV3. To curb costs, Kia is skipping the E-GMP’s usual 800-volt electrical system in favor of a 400-volt system, meaning charging times will be slower. Front-wheel drive will also likely be the only configuration.

For the EV3, Kia has announced battery options of 58.3 kWh (standard) and 81.4 kWh (long range). Something similar could be offered in the EV2.

There’s no clear image of the EV2’s cabin, but inside there will likely be a minimalist design with a single panel that combines screens for a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment hub, just like in Kia’s other EVs. Kia is also planning one AI-powered voice assistant for its latest vehicles.

Kia is on a mission to at least offer something 14 electric vehicles by the end of 2027. Some that are also testing include a EV4 hatch and liftbackas well as a powerful EV9 GT.

Kia has been quiet about the future EVs it’s planning for the US, although the automaker has previously confirmed a pickup and hinted at a crossover possibly called the EV7. Kia is also testing an electric van that can be offered locally.
